For my internship, I am going to working for an architecture firm in San Marcos, CA. I will be working for CTA Architects. They specialize in commercial properties but also do some private properties as well. I am very excited to start working, and after just that one day I know that I am in for a fun three weeks. I have always wanted to be an architect, so this is going to be a great experience.

Letter Of Intent
Hello,
My name is Kevin Gillie, and I am a junior at High Tech High North County. Welcome to the internship page of my digital portfolio. At High Tech High, we are all about project based learning, where we will do a larger project after studying something, instead of a major test. As another part of my schools philosophy of acquiring workplace skills in a real-world environment, I am required to complete an in-depth immersion of an internship.
It would really be an exciting thing to be able to provide my experience in your place of work. I have accomplished many things over the course of my high school years, and I have a lot to offer. I have much experience with Macintosh computers, since we use them daily at school, and also Windows computers as well, since I have one of my own. I am very familiar with Photoshop, and also the program Final Cut Pro. Using programs like the whole Microsoft Word suite, including powerpoint, excel, and programs like that, has made me very familiar with those programs as well.
Aside from those skills listed above, I also am a very big people’s person. I love talking with people and making things right if there is a problem. I love taking charge and also being a leader. I will do whatever it takes to fully understand something if I don’t get it, and I also know what I can handle. Being a student at High Tech High has taught me a lot about who I am, academically, and also in the sense of finding out what I can do, and what I am capable of. I have also done some community service, which is beneficial in different ways. I have been a volunteer at a local food bank, so I have worked with people before, and also done some kitchen help. I also volunteered at a coffee cart, making some various coffee drinks and also working with money. I have that experience of counting money and things along those lines, and working with customers. Not only that, but I can make a mean cappuccino.
I really have always been interested with architecture, and how there are so many different styles, and how you can be so unique with whatever you’re designing. Usually when I see a building that is very different, or has some style of architecture that I’ve never seen before, I will take time to look especially close at it. On my own, I’ve searched for some of the different types of architecture, and the different places around the world with the various types of architecture. It’s a dream of mine to travel to places like Paris, Rome, Prauge, in the Czech Republic, and Dubai, to personally see, and immerse myself in the amazing and different types of architecture in those places.
The coming internship will entail a three-week full time immersion at your work site. It would begin on May 24th and end three weeks later, on June 11th. I am truly so excited, and I really am interested in one day becoming an architect.
If you would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact my internship advisors Anne Gloag, Jen Howard, or Matt Leader at agloag@hightechhigh.org, jhoward@higtechhigh.org, or mleader@hightechhigh.org
I really would be honored to work for you, and I am excited and ready to start. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Thank you,
Kevin Gillie

High School Reflection
1. Describe your view of life beyond high-school.
I think after high-school, my life is going to be pretty great. I am very adamant about becoming an architect, and designing houses, but I think right outside high school, I really want to travel. I am very excited to go out and see the world for myself, and I cannot wait to see all the various types of architecture that is around the world. I do want to attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and that is defiantly my first choice of school. I am really excited about graduating, and moving on with my life. I know that it is going to be here before I know it, but I know that there is a lot of work needed to get where I want to go, so I am willing and ready to start now.
2. What questions do you have about our world? What do you wonder about? What are you moved to go out and do or learn about on your own time?
I think that our world is so big, and vast, that I want to really go out and see as much of it as I can. I love airplanes, and I love traveling, so I want to take advantage of that. I also am half mexican, and I’ve been taking spanish classes since elementary school, so I think going to a spanish speaking country, and fully learning spanish, and learning more about not only the mexican culture, but also different cultures, would be an amazing experience.
3. What do you imagine yourself doing after high-school in terms of work or a profession?
I hope that after high school, while in college, I am working somewhere cool. I guess you could call me somewhat of a nerd, but I would really like to work maybe at the Apple store, or like a Verizon Wireless store. Many of the people that I talk to about working there love what they do. I think that since I am such a social person, and that I am good at learning things quick, I would do pretty good there. I’ve always wanted to work in a place like that, so I am hoping that I could one day work at a place like that.
4. Describe your plan for achieving your educational and career goals.
I am defiantly planning on staying as organized as possible to achieve my educational as well as my career goals. I think that being as organized as possible is really what will keep me going. Everything I do, I try my hardest to stay organized, and write things down. This would work for my school and educational goals, and my career goals. I have worked hard all through my high school career to stay organized, and I think that it has helped me, and it will help me in the future as well.
5. What qualities or characteristics did you see in the people around you that you want to develop in yourself? Why?
Being at High Tech High, I really see so many people who are great at speaking well, and presenting problems and things of that sort. I think in any case, I would say that I would want to incorporate those skills in myself, but since I’ve been here, I think I’ve done that really well. Being around teachers who work hard, and know how to have fun, but also learn and teach, really rubs off on you.
6. How do interpersonal relationships and/or collaboration influence your understanding of your life outside of high school?
Many people outside of high school, play a big role in my life. Many of my other friends don’t go to High Tech High, so it’s different for me. I think that while those people play a big role, I really know how to be smart about who I am with. I know that my friends will always have the best interest for me, and they will help me through any troubles I might have.
